The number of Executive Producers on movies has more than doubled since 2000. And this kind of credit inflation is also present in other producer credits. Why?
Hello Stephen, I don't think I have the vocabulary in me (in all the 7 languages I speak #selfpromotion) to thank you and every producer who contributed to this conversation and reality check. The case in India and the far east of the world is beyond Vanity. I can write down a few credits as well, EGO-Producer, Manipulative Producer, I don't care, but give me money and credit producer, I shall not work or take an ounce of responsibility, but I am the financer's Right-Hand producer and much more...
As a Creative Producer, as part of my personality, and also working my a**-off to get creative justice to the story and character arcs, to ensuring the deliery of the content to platforms and theatres is as per technical specs as well, only be given "Post Production Supervisor" as a credit because studio-head gets to take a call, and I am just a mere employee of a regional establishment that runs like a retail corner confectionery shop.
Honestly, thank you for this breakdown - I've often seen screen upon screen of different producer titles, and now I finally understand them!
"The 2025 Argentine film Death of a Comedian cited 10,123 Associate Producers." is a sentence to savour.
I've developed a rule of thumb: if the number of producers outnumber the number of key cast listed, the end result will not likely be worth watching.
Sadly, this rule is rarely broken.
You never saw Lord of War.
